Water Softener Control Valves
Fleck, Clack and Autotrol heads for rebuilding a softener or a backwashing filter: metered or timer, service flow, pipe size and the tanks they fit.
Most whole-house softeners sit on one of a few valve families. When the timer, motor or board fails on an older unit, a new head on the existing tank and resin is often the cheapest repair; when the resin is also worn, it is the start of a rebuild.
Match the tank thread (most residential tanks use 2.5-inch 8 threads per inch), the distributor tube diameter, the pipe size and the injector size for your tank diameter. A metered valve set to your hardness uses noticeably less salt than a timer.

Metered heads regenerate on gallons used and save salt over timer heads.
A simple head for a steady household
Timer heads regenerate on a set schedule; they cost less but regenerate whether the resin needs it or not.
Check before you order
- Read the label first. The valve model is printed on the body or the timer. Fleck 5600 and 5600SXT share most internal parts but not boards or meters; Clack WS1 and WS1.25 don't share pistons.
